Sad anniversary …

… Beyond Necessity : LT Frank Reasoner, USMC, killed in action 12 July 1965.

However, with respect to the carnage in Vietnam, I do blame America’s feckless politicians and the military-industry complex. Hey, Eisenhower warned us about the latter. And we’ve always been infected by the former.

And here’s  something about my high school:

More graduates of Father Judge High School on Solly Avenue in Northeast Philadelphia were killed in the Vietnam War than from any other existing Catholic or private school in America. The students at the all-male Catholic high school come from 21 parishes in Philadelphia. Father Judge used to share the grim distinction with Cardinal Dougherty High School, closed in 2010. Cardinal Dougherty, once the country’s largest Catholic high school, coincidentally also had 27 casualties among its alumni. Ironically, both schools were just a few miles away from Edison High in North Philly which lost 66 students, more pupils than any other public high.

I had a teacher’s deferment.
