Something to think on …

If there is no God, nothing matters. If there is a God, nothing else matters.
— H. G. Wells, who died on this date in 1946

  1. I was expecting that to say "If there is a God, everything matters." Which would then mean "everyone matters".

What that opened up was that we have degrees of mattering, if only not to spread ourselves too thin. If a baby is starving in North Korea and another in Argentina and I have limited resources, then I have to choose. Or, I can join a group to feed the children. If a woman is being raped on one side of the city, and another on the other, I can only spread myself so thin once again, or join the political activist group to stop rapes in the city. But, if I'm already active in feeding the children of the world, might I be spreading myself too thin to get involved with the stop-rape group.

It then comes down to, yes, everything matters, but what is my calling, and this would be where God comes in: If there is no God, you have no calling. If there is a God, you do.
