Something I missed ...

... but thoroughly agree with: Garrison Keillor, August Kleinzahler, and the perils of one-sided fisticuffs.

I could never warm to Prarie Home Companion, either.

  1. That's fine. Those of us who actually live in the Midwest, who "get" Garrison Keillor, understand quite well that those who live in the urban coastal metropolises never quite get it. Which is fine. Maybe you have to be here to get the humor of it all. But don't mind us, we're just the "flyover zone."

  2. I've spent a lot of time in the Midwest, Art. I'm one the few people I know who used to like to vacation there. And I don't mean just Chicago (perhaps my favorite city). I mean Soldiers Grove,Wisconsin, Saint Lucas, Iowa, places like that. I just always found Keillor's shtick too arch by half, a Midwest repackaged for the Upper West Side of Manhattan.

  3. Art, I'm from Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Only bits and snatches seemed familiar to me from "Prairie Home Companion," and I never saw why it was heartwarming or funny.

I didn't resent it - just, as Frank said, never warmed to it.
