Hmm ...

... Maverick Philosopher: Why Exaggerate?

But isn't exaggeration, in the instances cited, just hyperbole, done for rhetorical effect and not meant to be taken literally?

  1. It may be upbringing. From the time I could speak, I was raised not to exaggerate. Indeed, my father, who loves baseball and would have given his right arm to be ambidextrous, told me a million times not to exaggerate.
