British novelist Magnus Mills explains why he's back driving a double-decker: Why my career is back on route. I like this: "I was now a full-time writer and I quickly realised that sitting in the sunshine all day was quite boring. I soon concluded that apart from paying off the mortgage, little had changed and that being a writer was no big deal."
(Hat tip, Maxine Clarke.)
I can understand the logic behind the move. I addtion to being a pre-published writer, I'm a seamstress in my own shop.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I could ever see myself not sewing. but I could see myself being afforded the liberty to pick and choose the jobs I take on.
After a month of being retired from sewing, I'd be getting out of bed at noon, and not getting anything done!
Hey Bonnie, no wonder we're so simpatico: My Mom was a seamstress -- worked in factories, though, didn't have her own shop.
ReplyDeleteI worked in factories in the late 60's and eary 70's, learned every machine there was. The old ladies were always yelling at me to stop going so fast and breaking the rate!...but alas, there aren't any factories any more!
