Jenny decided to listen to the old BBC "Voyage of the Dawn Treader" on a car journey recently. First Cathy, then me, then finally malcolm were all drawn in. I was in tears by the end. It was not one of the Narnia books that stuck in my mind (I adored them as a child) but on re-"reading" (i.e. listening) to it now, I loved it. Lewis modelled it on the Odyssey, I presume, as he modelled The Silver Chair on Virgil's Aenied -- book 6 -- Aeneas visits the underworld. Wonderful poetry -- read by me once long ago in the original Latin, and though I can't remember the words off by heart any more, I recall their beauty and resonance.
