You have hit the double jackpot parent-wise today, Frank. Velikovsky for my mother and Britten for my Dad. (though he is not too approving of that peter pears stuff). My dad is very knowledgeable about music, he leaves me far behind. His interests range far beyond Britten, but I know he does like Britten. Interestingly, he came to visit us once in the days when he would go anywhere, and we were listening to Puccini. He said he really did not like Puccini, "too emotional".
For me, emotion is what it is all about when listening to music or reading or whatever.
