Hooray!

... praise for Somerset Maugham: A master carpenter. (Hat tip, Dave Lull.)

I hadn't known Waugh was an admirer, too.

  1. I very much enjoyed and admired Maugham when I was a young man. "Of Human Bondage", "The Moon And Sixpence" and "Cakes And Ale" were among my favourite novels. It must be thirty years since I last looked at them. I wonder how they would read now.

  2. Well, Pundy, I read The Painted Veil not too long ago - wrote a review of it, in fact - and I thought it was great. The Razor's Edge holds up, too.

  3. Yes, it's nice to see old Somerset get some respect.
