We're back ...

... Blogger was acting - actually, not acting at all. By now, you surely know that Orhan Pauk has won the 2006 Nobel Prize for literature: Orhan Pamuk's rise to stardom proceeded on different tracks abroad and at home.

As usual, someone I've never heard of.
Actually, not quite true this time, I have, dimly.

But why do they keep giving it to these obscure people? How many actual readers does this no doubt terribly worthy and intellectual person have?

If J K Rowling doesn't get it after book 7, as she surely won't, the world is mad. How many thousands and millions of people has that woman got to read, and made to carry on reading, and encouraged to read other books. How many out of print authors have been reprinted via the "JKR" effect, or indeed, been published first-time.

Pshaw! It's enough to make you become a global warming sceptic and go before a tribunal ;-)
