What a liberal idea this is ...

... Nuremberg-style Trials Proposed for Global Warming Skeptics.

Persecution is among the weaker forms of argument.

  1. Must be an election nearing. It is always marked by an increase in the number times I notice people demonizing the word 'Liberal'. I love America. It's predictable, you know?

  2. You misunderstand, Blue. The term "liberal" need not be parochialized as a merely political term. I meant it in its broader sense of, well, free and open. And my use of it was ironic in the strict, rhetorical sense of saying one thing while meaning another, as is "I love America ..."
But, if you want to narrow it to a partisan meaning, I suppose the propronants of the suggestion linked to do regard themselves as "liberal."

  3. I'm sorry I misunderstood you, Frank.

I have seen more of such subtle and not-so-subtle tar brushings lately. That and the standard 'Dems will raise your taxes' propaganda have started in earnest. 'Specially with the Foley thing swirling. Republican strategists are out in force on cable TV dirverting attention. The word 'liberal' is being shot at us like so much hate speech. They will be at this all through this next 3 weeks. It makes me weary.

I keep wondering when Ann Coulter's gonna show. They hold her back 'til the last week I think.

Liberals (all liberals?) are kooks who want to try people who don't believe man is responsible for the climate warming. Oh, I believe that! Sure I do.

Conservatives (all conservatives?) are pedophiles who wait for house pages to turn the age of consent and then they move up to more than text messages. Should I believe that?

BTW, did the Inquirer review Woodward's new book? Kuo's? I missed them.

  4. Hi Blue, check out the Bryan Appleyard posts I linked to earlier today. I definitely think Bryan is on to something. BTW, I would describe myself actually as right of center, but most of my colleagues are distinctly left of center. Yet we all get along fine.

  5. Hey Frank, the Appleyard posts seem correct. But that's not going to change the next three weeks of media poisonings. These tribes need realigned.

How about this: in '08 I pledge my vote for the candidate who JFK's a moon speech, and specific plan, on energy independence. If Brazil can accomplish flex fuel cars and stations and freedom from mideast oil in a 5 year period, why can't we? We'll call our tribe the Fuel and Freedom Party and our party icon will be a fox or an owl. Not a skinny mule or fat pachyderm, but a totem of wisdom.

    Wouldn't that be something?

You? Right of center? Noooo! I'd have never guessed. I'm told I'm a pinko left coaster. I am on the left coast, but I'm kinda purple, if you know what I mean. -b

  6. Purple seems fine to me. I color myself maroon. I am actually registered a libertarian. I worked in the federal government for a while. It's over-rated - no matter who's in charge. And yes, we do have a few more weeks of nonsense coming our way. Just remember what Mencken said: "In politics, one must learn to rise above principle."

My vote's for Nancy Pelosi, that mother of five and known liberal and satanist. Wotan only knows what sort of Wiccan fairy tales she whispers every night into the innocent ears of her countless grandchildren.

  8. I never knew Nancy was even remotely that interesting. Nothing she has ever said or done suggested it.

To hear the reactionary demonizers, you would think she is. Wicked, wicked woman. Not like nice Republican cookie-bakers.
