Hal assures Dave ...

... "I have the greatest enthusiasm for sestinas" (you do remember Hal the computer, I hope): Computer Poetry Pushes The Genre Envelope. (Hat tip, Dave Lull.) Different Dave, by the way.

  1. I'd be interested in seeing some of the poetry generated by this scientist's program. I looked into computer generated poetry about a year ago and blogged about it here: "Can a Computer Write Poetry"

And don't even get me started on sestinas! LOL.

  2. I'm sorry, Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that.

    (Sorry, I couldn't resist.)

  4. What Maria Engberg is studying here has been going on for some time. It's just very good to see it coming out, even riding the Science Daily avenue with her press release.

In the old Atlantic Writers' Workshop, Randy Adams (who's worth looking up, even just for his book-published photography), used to post his regular written-word poetry, fine stuff of itself--but also providing links to some of his magnificent digital or computer poetry--online published, of course. It was through him, that I spent many nights clicking around the web going from digital poet to digital poet, amazed at the coming together of art genres into poetry. The model I have for the arts now, is that Poetry is the general category; the literature, fine arts, music, and so forth are sub-genres.

Now that Maria Engberg has successfully defended her work here (Great News!), she will be making it into a book to come out in the next year. (Is there a book scoop here for The Inquirer?)

    Yours,
    Rus
