Well, he certainly has people's attention again. Nobody liked the last book, but they're darn well checking him out again now!
He doesn't come across as racist so much as horribly confused, like he hasn't thought through any of his positions--the ones I'd agree with or the ones I'd disagree with. I realize the interviewer is unsympathetic to him, which may skew the whole presentation, but Amis sure doesn't come across very well. Doesn't make me enjoy The Rachel Papers any less, though.
