No dud this ...

... Elaine Dundy, who died on May 1, is best known for her novel The Dud Avocado. But she also wrote Elvis and Gladys, which the TLS reviewed on May 24, 1985: Then and Now. Prospective biographers of anyone could learn a lot from this.

    I particularly like the reviewer's praise for Dundy's effort to write humanely about her subjects. Unless one is writing about blatant villains, I can't think of anything more important when writing about the past.
