The joking recommendation he made in the 1930s to stimulate the economy via waste was, by the 1970s, an policy known as “planned obsolescence.”

But planned obsolescence became itself obsolete because technological change turns out to be exponential - which is why the computer I am working at cost so much less than the one I had 10 years ago that did so much less.
