    Michael Nestor and Henry Gee are absolutely right. The greatest threat to science is the lack of scientific literacy among the general public. Scientific literacy will not be advanced by snide, ignorant attacks on religion (after all, religious literacy is quite high), but rather by presenting science as a gateway to a deep, profound understanding of the mysteries of nature, and as a cast of mind complementary, rather than antagonistic, to the religious vision.
