    Yes, the NYT is surprisingly slow on the uptake here! At work we always use Google searches rather than our own search engine when we want to find something in our content, and have been doing so for years.
    However, so far as I know, Google does not do interesting things with the content of publisher's sites, which their own search engines can do (eg subject or keyword related "bundles" of content tailored to fit a user's particular interests).
