A Peek-See Profile @ Surname Searcher

New-Jersey Frank got this off LifeHacker who got it off Waxy which slowed down my computer too much so I gave up tracking it to its source and just thought you'd enjoy discovering "Wilson" is a more popular surname in the one place where you'd abso-deffo expect it to be: Australia (while Fitzgerald is, natch, most popular where it, too, ought to be, especially New Zealand . . . yep . . . followed by the UK and NA).

  1. What's the Wilson connection to Australia that makes it "the one place where you'd abso-deffo expect it to be"? Do you come from a long line of criminals and n'er do wells who were transported to Australia?

  2. Oh, Dear, New-Jersey Frank (a.k.a. Bourgeois Nerd); I'm not Frank (though I do my best to be honest); I just thought it interesting that "Wilson" was more popular in Australia than the UK or NA. Didn't make sense to me; but, then again, isn't there an actor named "Wilson" from OzLand? So, maybe it's the Smith or Jones of the Uk or NA?

Anyway, it still boggles my mind my surname, Fitzgerald, shows up more in New Zealand than Ireland. I want a remount! I can't afford to go to NZ to find the rest of we :).

  3. Judith: Oh, I'm so sorry! Honestly, I didn't even look at the byline and just assumed it was Frank who wrote the post. I really must pay more attention. I'm honored you dropped by my blog, BTW.

I still suspect Frank is a descendant of a line of dastardly convicts transported to Australia, thus the name's popularity there. *LOL*

My surname is also more frequent in NZ than anywhere else, and I don't understand it either. Maybe there are just relatively few surnames in NZ, and ours are in the bunch? I don't think that site shows gross numbers, just the frequency of the name per million, so there may be more in NZ proportionally but more in Ireland or NA in terms of raw numbers.

  4. Um, See Judith run; see Judith duck! Over to you, FWilson :) . . .

(I know, "abso-deffo" ain't in your lexiconfluence, FW; but, I'm not sure whether the honour's all mine or if I have to share some of it with illustrious you!)

Am currently downloading the interview with Katie (via Dial-Up); so, excuse moi if I don't wane poetic on my theories — such as they are — why we end up being more populous in NZ, Frank, than anywhere else on the planet; but, I gotta ask — I mean, who could resist? — since when was "Nerd" a popular surname, anyway, let alone in New Zealand, huh?

    Hehe . . . That'll larn ya!

  5. I think I'm descended from a long line of criminals in the U.S., actually.
