I've read and own two of Carpenter's volumes. They're very interesting, actually. HIs theories were better than most of his poetry, for the most part. He was the one who first promoted Whitman in Europe, though, which was a big deal at the time.
It's nice to see someone promoting him, even as a neglectorino.
Neglectorino, Art? SNARF! YUM! Sounds a little peachy citrustic :); but, if he brought WWW* to the attention of across-the-ponders, I like him even more. (Had heard of him; but, don't have any of his works; I bet they're worth more in antiquarian than aesthetic terms, though.)
Any examples eight lines or less you especially like of the poetry? Feeling generous? I'd be interested in seeing a complete shortie, pls/tnx (and, whether it's now Public Domain or not, you can legally quote eight lines of anything under Fair-Use provisions of both the Berne and the DMCA, grovel, grovel :).)
* Wonderful Walt W., o' course, you prolly got that :)
