I have had more direct experience of the Stuart Shorters of the world than I care to elaborate - though I will say this: I am painfully aware that the One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest view of mental illness is criminally at odds with reality. Schizophrenics do not live in some quaint alternate reality; they live in something nearer to Hell.
What interests me about this piece, though, is what are these homeless people doing on the computers - and why should they be able to, in effect, loiter there? If they become a public nuisance, they should be shown the door and if their behavior becomes chronic, the door should be closed to them. (I know: I'm a Blue Meanie.)
