I'm not sure that failure is more interesting than success. Of course much depends on what you mean by success. If it's just material success, well that can be both limited and limiting. But one can achieve what one sets out to without gaining any material benefit from it. But the achievement remains real and correspondingly satisfying. Nor do I think that failure necessarily reveals people as they truly are, anymore than poverty necessarily ennobles. I've known winners and losers, some interesting, some not. I think the interesting winners would have been just as interesting had they lost, and the interesting losers would have been just as interesting had they won. They were interesting in and of themselves, not because of their circumstances.
