How much really cool guys of my generation wanted to be as super-cool as John Drake. The video explains more about people like me than anything else I can think of. The overwhelming wish not to think as you were told to - about anything, whether it be the climate or the great leader or whatever.

We all must go, of course, but this is a bit of a shock. Patrick McGoohan was a startling artist. I was dazzled by and admired "The Prisoner," but, honestly, I got more enjoyment out of "Secret Agent," which I first became aware of when we were living in England, where it originated as "Danger Man." When I was in Infantry OCS at Fort Benning, Ga., one of the songs we used to run to was "Secret Agent Man." The other was the "Batman" theme.

ReplyDeleteThank you. This, in turn, inspired me to see whether "Secret Agent/Danger Man" was available on DVD. Turns out the whole series is, and now the first episode is at the top of my list on Netflix.
