  1. Frank, thank you for noting Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s birthday. He was someone about whom we should all know something.

    In my own birthday tribute to Bonhoeffer, I suggested there was nothing cloistered about this cleric. "Cheap grace is the mortal enemy of our church," Bonhoeffer once wrote. "Our struggle today is for costly grace" ... and that was amply and tragigally demonstrated in the course of his all-too-short life.
