Just so ...

... The Not-So-New Scientist. (Hat tip, Dave Lull.)

One leading idea is that religion is an evolutionary adaptation that makes people more likely to survive and pass their genes onto the next generation. In this view, shared religious belief helped our ancestors form tightly knit groups that cooperated in hunting, foraging and childcare, enabling these groups to outcompete others.
But of course. This also explains art, music and literature - and any other human activity you can think of. It explains everything. Indeed, it is the only explanation of everything that there is. Remember that when you wonder about something - because you needn't bother wondering. Whatever it is, it's "an evolutionary adaptation that makes people more likely to survive and pass their genes onto the next generation." Glad to be of help.

  1. Yes, it's so wonderfully circular, this way of 'thinking', isn't it? It also tells you what's 'really' going on in any form of human behaviour. How useful.
