They're smart to base this on Hotchner's book rather than something else. I recently found a hardcover first edition of the book, and it really is a great book. If the movie had been based on anyone else's work, it would not be believable, more myth than real life.
(BTW Hotch was also Paul Newman's buddy and cofounder of Newman's Own. The two books Newman and Hotchner wrote together about their adventures are some of the most fun reading I've had in the past several years. Great stuff.)
