In this week's round-up of the newest crime-fiction titles, Margaret Cannon dishes on the latest from the likes of Val McDermid, Jason Goodwin, and Jo Nesbo (among others). Ms. Cannon, one of Canada's Top Two Whodunit assessors, quietly goes about her brilliant business so well so consistently, ISTM she deserves far more recognition than she currently receives.
McLuhan believed detective fiction topped all other forms of prose; and, in that respect, Cannon shows and tells why week after week after week with a passion only a true aficionado of the form can appreciate. (Jack Batten, no slouch himself, of course, never fails to deliver the down-and-dirty goods, either; thus, if I had to choose, I'd choose Jack Cannon :).)
