A dim view ...

... of The New Humanism. (Hat tip, Dave Lull.)

... a weak enemy is precisely what these negative philosophies require. Like so many modern ideologies, the new humanism seeks to define itself through what it is against rather than what it is for. It is for nothing, or at any rate for nothing in particular.
Perhaps all of these people should take a look at the original humanist manifesto, Pico della Mirandola's Oration on the Dignity of Man. Our new humanists do not, in fact, share Pico's exalted view of man, and Pico would not recognize their brand of humanism.

  1. Secular humanism--a politically motivated mindset--has little to do with humanism, at least not in the classical sense. Secular humanism as espoused and practiced by so many in the 21st century is primarily oppositional, confrontational, intolerant, and atheistic. If secular humanism continues to dominate the conversation in culture, God help us all.
