I've offered praise for Joseph Roth's Flight Without End on this blog before. Re-reading sections of the novella today, I couldn't help but be moved by Roth's prescience, by his poetry:
"Ultra-modern bells, fashioned out of war material by gun-factories converted to peaceful purposes, called the world to prayer." (Overlook ed., 75)
Let me again suggest Roth's "minor masterpiece" to all who might be interested in that period between the Wars.
