I'd proceed from the premise that at this point, anyone with a computer is now a subscriber to The New York Times and The New Yorker, and every other book section in any other paper, so it makes no sense to me that the Inquirer -- or any other local paper -- would review exactly the same books, sometimes on the same day, often in exactly the same way.
But you see, the only way the powers that be at The Inquirer know that a book is worth reviewing is because they see it reviewed in the Times or the New Yorker. Come to think of it, that's pretty much how they figure out what's newsworthy, too.
