But seriously, The Wind and the Willows serves up, in the chapter titled "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn," an understanding of the religious impulse that is worth all that has been written on the subject by anthropologists and the like. I have little sense of reverence. I reserve it for things that deserve it, like The Wind and the Willows.
