Author and filmmaker ...

... Mario Puzo and Francis Ford Coppola.

  1. Not many film makers are that generous to authors.

It was good to see Francis Coppola ackknowledge Mario Puzo and credit him as much as he did.

They worked well together, which is why "The Godfather" and "The Godfather, Part II" are near perfect classic films that can be watched again and again.

Even "The Godfather, Part III," which is far from perfect, has some shining moments and some very fine performances. (I would have replaced Sofia Coppola, who was an unskilled actor, and Eli Wallach, who overacted and had an awful Italian accent).

I told my daughter, who, like me, is half-Italian, that although the vast majority of Italian-Americans are not involved in organized crime, "The Godfather, Part II" was the best film portrayal of the early Italian-American experence.

I love the scene where the ship filled with immigrants comes into New York City and the young Vito Corleone and all the passengers on deck rise and see the Statue of Liberty. It was truly a wonderful scene and the music was perfect.
