Waugh and the Monsignor ...

... `To Have Once Been a Brilliant Picture'.


Monsignor Ronald Knox, at the end of his life, was seen off at the train station by his friend Harold Macmillan, who wished him a pleasant journey. Knox replied, "It will be a very long one." Knox knew he had terminal cancer. Let us all pray we can be so composed in the face of death. I am, even now, training myself to cast a cold eye on death.
