Was it good television? Mark Broughton, the author of a history of the show to be published this year by the British Film Institute and Palgrave Macmillan, thinks so. He called the mini-series “far more effective” than Waugh’s novel because it better revealed the damage done to Jeremy Irons’s character by a deceptively charming, immensely wealthy family.
That, however, is not what the book is about: I beg to differ ...
