I once assigned a review to someone who had gone to prison for what had been, in part, a breach of journalistic ethics. I was surprised at the criticism I received from some fellow journalists. My view was that he had paid his debt to society and ought to given a second chance. The view of others was that, so far as journalism was concerned, he should be cast out into the darkness forever.
