I read the first poem in this collection yesterday afternoon. Called "Another Shirley Temple," it's about a little girl accompanying her Dad to the neighborhood bar. It is simple and affecting. It affected me in particular because I remember accompanying my own father to the bard from time to time, on the rare occasions that I saw him at all. Sahms-Guaniei's poem captures the sweetness that can come from such a situation. Yes, sweetness.
