Maybe you should try to figure out how you got it all so wrong. Writers are supposed to have more than just a clue to that. Maybe you're out of touch.
Or write on deadline. Like the prospect of hanging, deadlines wonderfully focus the mind.
I can't believe I read that whole thing, but I'm struck by what nearly all of those writers' responses have in common: the shock of discovering that the personal is endlessly more sustaining than the political. I worry about the perspicacity of writers who come to that realization so late.
