Well, I remain a fan of Walden. I even made a pilgrimage there once. But this piece grates at times, not least with business about the "unnamed narrator." Come on. It's autobiographical and everyone has always known that. And I heard criticism of Thoreau as a naturalist 50 years ago.
As for Thoreau's contribution to climatology, here's something our author might want to look at:
What Happened to Spot? A Solar Update. It seems to me the jury is still out as to the direction climate is taking, not that I want to cast aspersions on anyone's faith.
