Truly appalling …

…

… one of the defining characteristics of normal people is that our empathy machines, fortunately for society, are not so singularly transactional. We care about people even when it isn’t immediately obvious that there is something in it for us.

The normal people on Monday did what the normal people do. But the abnormal people didn’t do that.

They heard the news, read the stories, took in all of the information that made you sad, and their first reaction was: anyone who can afford a $250k tourist trip deserves to die.

Someone found some left wing psychopaths? How about this study from 2020: New study links psychopathic tendencies to racial prejudice and right-wing authoritarianism. It's the first result when I did a duckduckgo.com search for "are psychopaths more right wing or left wing?" The next one, by the same political psychologist Eric W. Dolan, is Antagonistic narcissism and psychopathic tendencies predict left-wing antihierarchical aggression, study finds. That latter article begins thusly:

Narcissistic individuals and those with psychopathic tendencies are more likely to strongly endorse left-wing antihierarchical aggression, according to new research published in Current Psychology. Antihierarchical aggression refers to a specific type of hostility aimed at challenging or opposing hierarchical power structures or authority figures. The new findings shed light on psychological mechanisms that motivate some individuals to participate in violent political activism.

The majority of research on authoritarianism has focused on individuals with right-wing political ideologies. This focus has resulted in a gap in understanding authoritarianism among individuals who support left-wing political ideologies, which the authors behind the new work sought to address.

The focus was on antihierarchical aggression. Is that not another way of saying pro-equality aggression? The article says:

However, their motivation is not necessarily driven by a genuine desire for social justice and equality. Instead, they use these ideologies and activities as a way to fulfill their own ego-centered needs.

It seems that just like there are racist rightwing haters, we also have a dark left-wing that wants to come across as morally superior.
