The gold standard ...

... Translating Tolstoy: Richard Pevear and Larissa Volokhonsky. (Hat tip, Dave Lull.)

Has their translation of "War and Peace" finally been published? A bit of it appeared in the summer issue of The Hudson Review, but when I went to buy the novel at a bookstore, the newest translation I could find was Briggs. (I think you reviewed it, did you not, Frank?)

Anyway, they did a great job on "Anna Karenina," so I think I'm about to own another translation.
