Good to know ...

... Mahler triumphant.

I fell in love with Mahler's music one afternoon when the fifth symphony was played on the radio. I guess I was maybe 17. At the time I believe there was only one complete set of the symphonies on record. Most of the recordings were of the third, fourth, second and ninth. Mine was thought at the time to be an odd enthusiasm. All that started to change in 1964, Mahler's centenary year.

The first (non-rock) concert I ever attended was Mahler's fifth at Lincoln Center, had to be around 1990. It was my first time hearing it, or anything by Mahler. Still probably the best concert I've ever been to. I wrote my first novel to his fifth, as Ed Pettit and I discussed a while back.
