Culture clash ...

... Continental Drift. (Hat tip, Dave Lull.)

  1. Frank, I'm not suggesting to have a sure and certain solution to the problem ... but maybe we - ALL of us, old-timers and newcomers - need to stretch a little and look further, higher and deeper to find some common ground - no matter how tenuous it may be in the beginning.

Early last year, while in Thailand, I learned of a village called Bang Rachan. In the 18th century (in what was then Siam), a band of 400-or-so farmer/warriors in that village held off a much larger and better-armed invasion force from neighboring Burma. The defense of Bang Rachan was valiant ... but after five months, the village was overrun, with the villagers fighting to the last.

To someone like myself, recently arrived from the 'Land of the Alamo,' it provided a good starting point for learning and teaching, for growing and sharing ... in becoming more than I was when I first arrived.
