… Lantern Theater's 'Tempest': A victory for kindliness, with an ache at the heart.
Debbie and I went last night. It is a fine production and well worth seeing. It is also my favorite Shakespeare play.
Here's a production from when television was a vast wasteland:
'Tis a fine play in which the tropes of creation and paternal care fascinate me. Some productions in the past half century have become mired down in the muck of post-colonial hand-wringing. I hope your theatrical experience avoided the political and stayed focused on the aesthetics of creation. You have sent me scurrying to my Shakespeare for a refresher.
ReplyDeletePostscript.....my first experience with the play was indirect: The Forbidden Planet with Walter Pigeon, Ann Francis, et al.
ReplyDeleteLoving the sarcasm in the last line :)
