I fear it be so …

… No respect - Philadelphia Weekly. (Hat tip, Paul Davis.)

If you’ve ever been at a meeting of progressive Democrats, or even of the country club sort of Republicans who like to “get along” with them, such as the ones who define as “Never Trumpers,” you will detect an obvious disdain for working-class white ethnic groups. I have “passed” in those circles, being an attorney who practices in the so-called liberal field of immigration. Those who have not read my columns or heard me on the radio or TV assume I am one of them. It’s “Imitation of Life,” just substituting mindset for race. I’m not one of them, but I look like one of them and so the guard is down. Like that fly on the proverbial wall, I have access to what they say when they think no one is listening beyond the sterile bubble of elite wisdom.

  1. This is malarkey. People who don't vote for Trump, simply don't vote for Trump. They don't call themselves anything. Do you call yourself a Never Bidener? Would you define yourself in relations to someone you would not vote for? It's a label that necessarily comes from others for others.

  2. I voted against Hilary. i voted against Biden. Sometimes voting against is imperative. I’m an individual. i think for myself. You should get out more. I’ve met the sort of people she describes.

  3. How should I get out more? I get out a lot a lot, and discuss such things a lot a lot, and never met or ran into anyone who describes him- or herself as a Never Trumper. That's a ridiculous label unless it's by someone on his campaign noting how there are people who would seem would never vote for him. Otherwise, it's not reality based, with no room in a legitimate essay. It's an even more ridiculous self-label, which is what she purports. This was written by someone whose world revolves around Trump, or someone who gets paid to lie. Why else would someone who doesn't care for a particular politician be labeled for being against him? It's foolishness. And, if she really and truly met someone who goes around wearing a never-Trump badge, why would that one person rate being written about? Does she have nothing better to offer? Or is this quick money for writers, to get inane with gaga-Trump malarkey?

  4. I wish I could be as sure of anything as you are of everything.

  5. Well, Frank, you seem to be sure of a great deal, most especially that you think for yourself.
