Are Christian writers serious enough?

Kevin Holtsberry links to a discussion of Christians and serious fiction. Well, novelist Michael D. O'Brien is definitely Christian and definitely a serious novelist. But this question is tricky. Muriel Spark's fiction, I think, was informed by her Catholic faith. I suspect that Torgny Lindgren's is also. But their novels are far from being explicitly religious.
