Frank, Mr. Stein beat me to it. I was going to send you a link when I saw this. Let me add that Art Buchwald was a funny, funny writer, apparently a good father and husband, and served his country when it needed him. All of that is worth remembering, and honoring.

I can't resist adding further that I have my own, small, personal recollection of Art Buchwald. It was, I think, 1990, and I had gone to the booksellers national convention in Las Vegas. After schlepping around the cavernous convention center all Saturday morning and afternoon, I went to the press room and slumped exhausted into a chair at a table. Sitting across from me was Art, who must have been there to promote one of his books. He said, "You look like you've lost your last friend." So tired was I, apparently. So for 10 minutes or so he was my friend. We talked about this and that; I really don't recall what. Probably newspaper stuff. I believe he had a soft spot for newspapers, newspapering, and newspaper people. As do I, though in these days of animosity toward the MSM I admit it with some trepidation.
