... The Redeker Affair.
Redeker ... soon received a large number of threats by letter and e-mail. On an Islamist website, he was sentenced to death in a posting that, in order to facilitate a potential assassin’s task, also provided his address and a photograph of his home. Fearful for himself and his family, Redeker sought protection from the local police, who transferred the case to the national counter-espionage authorities. On their advice, Redeker, his wife, and three children fled their home and took shelter in a secret location. Since then, they have moved from city to city, at their own expense, under police protection. Another teacher has been appointed by the French Ministry of Education to replace Redeker, who will probably never see his students again.
One missed point is that all those people who came out so vehemently against Redeker, were scared out of their minds, and wanted to make it clear that they did not agree with him, so they would not themselves be threatened or suspected of being against the dogma of the clerics.
ReplyDeleteIssuing fatwas such as this, especially issued worldwide, is a serious form of terrorism, that will shut up a lot of people. How many of us will risk our and our families lives to speak the truth about this situation threatening the free speech of the entire world?
Such clerics with such nasty political power, people who claim to represent scripture but who represent their own distorted dogmas and position, need to be removed from power. They don't qualify. They are either psychopaths, cannot handle being a cleric, or both.

Amen, Rus. And I confess I have no sympathy for those who gave into fear - especially since they abandoned the strength numbers would have given them to confront the threat. The terrorists can't kill everybody - and giving into fear plays right into the terrorists' hands.
