Dirty books ...

... that got your attention, didn't it? Bryan wonders: Whatever Happened to the Dirty Book?

I'm not there ever were any. Only dirty minds. Which is not to say there are not books that take a distasteful view of things. Why there's ... no, I'm going to exercise a bit of self-control.

If there are dirty minds, then surely some of these minds have written dirty books. Books aren't some sacred entity on high.

  2. Interesting. Though the books usually called dirty - Henry Miller's, Rabelais's, Nabokov's Lolita - are not dirty and their authors weren't dirty-minded. But in principal what you say is true. Though I would think that a dirty book from a dirty mind wouldn't be much worth reading.

I'd agree with you there, though admittedly not having read Nabokov.

I've always thought de Sade's 120 Days of Sodom a much maligned treasure.
