I was downtown last night at the main hotel for the ALA'ers, the Loew's. Librarians all around, and I had dinner with my long-ago mentor, now Booklist editor, Mary Ellen Quinn. Between us, we were able to summon the lost world of Regency Square Branch Library in Jacksonville, Florida, circa 1978. It was MEQ's first job as a librarian, and my last high school job, as a student assistant.
And then, of course, paths diverged and the years flew by. Thirty of them!
