    I think Bill Maher made a similar point back in 2001 and got in trouble for it.

    I've also always hated the overuse of the words "brave" and "hero."

    Yes, but Maher failed to point out that brave in a certain context is not good. Also, like you, I think "brave" and "hero" - like "tragedy" - are much overused. My favorite heroes are Conrad's, who simply do their duty under difficult circumstances - usually without acknowledgment or reward.

  3. I'm with you, Frank. I don't know if Maher ever explained himself more fully. Of course it was a much more sensitive time back then. Not so long ago, and yet my older daughter was only in kindergarten, and now she's in middle school.
