The future of publishing (cont'd.) ...

... Small Publishers Feel Power of Amazon’s ‘Buy’ Button. (Hat tip, Dave Lull.)

  1. I quit going to Amazon's site about 4 months ago. It's the only thing I can do. Boycott. But then my action is really just a repeat of other times I've noticed corporate greed so great and my resultant reaction. It won't mean a thing 'cause they've got more than enough customers - they don't need me.

Amazon's throwing its weight around like it was taught to do by every other vendor with an advantage. First, they screw their competitors, then they screw there suppliers and eventually they'll screw their customers. Hey, the American Way!

And the little guys die with a whimper. The guys that own Amazon (Microsoft, Wal-mart, Standard Oil, etc., etc.) don't even notice.

  2. Actually, 94 percent of the world's oil reserves are controlled by national oil companies. The largest American oil company is Exxon Mobil, but it is only the 14th largest in the world and is tiny compared to the really big ones, which are owned either by governments or government-run monopolies. Exxon Mobil buys 90 percent if its oil from foreign suppliers.
