My blogging has been a bit spotty lately for a number of reasons, most of which I will go into at another time, because right now I want to go into the principal reason it was spotty today: I have been getting ready to head out to West Chester tomorrow for the West Chester University Poetry Conference. This has been for some time the largest annual all-poetry conference in the country, With the cancellation of next year's Dodge Festival, I guess it's now the biggest one, period.
This year the keynote address will be delivered by former U.S. Poet Laureate Donald Hall. Christopher Ricks will be there to extol the virtues of Bob Dylan. And some of Richard Wilbur's splendid translations will be staged. For National Endowment for the Arts Chairman Dana Gioia, who co-founded the WCU conference will also be there.
None of which seems to have impressed The Inquirer, which I gather has no plans for coverage. So I have decided to step into the breach and do a bit of live-blogging.
But not on my own. I mentioned Carrie Keesey last night. She is the conference's undergraduate assistant and she is going to my guide and keeper. She is going to do some guest blogging herself and line up some other guest bloggers as well. So there should be a multi-faceted view of the event. If all goes really well, we will even have some video interviews (Mike Peich, the director of the conference and the other cofounder and I have come up with what should prove an interesting interview approach - let's hope I can pull it off).

This is a noble, important cause, Frank. I wish you all success.
